The Lion & Crown Pub, an English-style pub with a large and varied menu, is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. serving lunch, dinner and daily specials. The pub also offers a wide selection of fine wines and 38 beers on tap. Guests can watch sporting events on one of the many large TV screens or enjoy a nice night out on the patio. Different drink specials are available every day and live music on Friday and Saturday.

Well, stranger things have happened, I’m sure; However, they got pretty strange at the Lion & Crown Pub on our regular Thursday night King Trivia Pub Quiz.  First of all, the spot in front of the fireplace usually occupied by the Ninja Turtles was vacant.  As long as I’ve been Quiz Master at the L&C, the Ninja Turtles have never missed a night!  Instead, a team called Turtle Soup shows up!  Weird, huh?  (They came in last, but I shouldn’t make any jokes about the other teams having turtle soup for dinner, should I?)  Then a slightly tipsy lady came up to me and wanted to play.  I happily obliged her and, handing her a quiz book and pen, asked her for her team name.  She gave me Where Brooklyn At.  When it came time to start, she was gone!  “Where Brooklyn At”?!?  No kidding!  In brief, returning teams Rogue One, Ship It! and Beer Logic duked it out with solo new comer Stealth Texas, who single handed (practically) took third place honors!  One other not so weird thing was being schooled by our trivia pub quizzers that Philadelphia is not a state!  I remain, as always, faithfully yours…

When in the course of human events, the heat wave is so bad that it keeps people at home, it is a testament to the trivia minded that even though the masses stay out of the pubs, King Trivia Pub Quizzers still come out to play!  And so it was this Thursday at the Lion & Crown with temperatures brushing up against three digits (with 100% humidity) that the loyal, the curious and the crazy turned out.  L&C standards The Ninja Turtles showed up in force, squaring off against recent add-ins Beer Logic.  Newbies Temoc’s Terrors registered themselves and gave a great effort while Nawmsayn (No, I’m Saying…  get it?) created themselves out of thin air and went on to grab third place!  Seeing those tipsy rowdies pull themselves up off their bar stools and form a trivia team to win a prize was like…  Like…  Dunkirk or something!  It made this Quizmaster proud, I can tell you!  Until next week, dasvidaniya!

Lots of newcomers joined the action at the Lion & Crown in Allen, TX this Thursday for our weekly King Trivia Pub Quiz.  Beer Logic, Teachers on Vacation, Fiddle Stix, Asterix & Obelix, and Live Free or Die joined regulars Ninja Turtles, Ship It!, Foot Clan and recent joiner Pickles on a Plate.  Teachers on Vacay (as they abbreviated on their ballots) shook things up early on when they went Double or Nothing and succeeded in Round Two!  Everybody else was chasing them the rest of the evening, including local faves Ninja Turtles.  It wasn’t until Round Seven that green ones caught up with a Double or Nothing of their own that brought them to a tie!  Talk about excitement!  Ninja Turtles actually pulled it off by winning the tie breaker and even that was a close call!  Special mention to Live Free or Die (who missed the entire first round!), Beer Logic and Pickles on a Plate (who competed solo!) who ran consistent scores all night.  Not only was the weather hot (temps were up at 96) but the competition was hotter!  Until next week…
