The Lion & Crown Pub, an English-style pub with a large and varied menu, is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. serving lunch, dinner and daily specials. The pub also offers a wide selection of fine wines and 38 beers on tap. Guests can watch sporting events on one of the many large TV screens or enjoy a nice night out on the patio. Different drink specials are available every day and live music on Friday and Saturday.

Dateline:  June 8th, 2017 at the Lion & Crown Pub in Allen, TX – Quiz Master Lou reporting!  The word for tonight’s Pub Quiz is “Exciting!   Exciting!  Exciting!”  We saw the changing fortunes of war shift several times throughout the evening’s competition between seven teams!  Ties for first, second and third place all occurred in Round One!  Regulars, the Ninja Turtles, took the lead in Round Two, lost it in Round Five, but regained it in Round Six for a win at the end of the night!  Kudos to newcomers, Porcupinions, who snagged Second Place and our old friends, Ship It!, who took third.  Let’s recognize faithful participants Rogue One and extend a warm welcome to newbies Royal Flush, the Southside Johnnies and Tequila Mockingbird!  Note to King Trivia – Thanks for turning me on to the Pink Martinis!

Action at the Lion & Crown Pub was dominated by the Ninja Turtles Team, who showed up in strength, took the lead early in the first round and held onto it like a dog with a bone.  Jockeying for second place were Ship It! and Team Helos until Round 4 when The Byatches pulled ahead suddenly, upsetting the balance of power for the remainder of the evening.  (I guess those Byatches owe their score to Anna Kendrick…)  Once firmly in second place, Byatches held on until the end putting the third place contest between Ship It!  and Team Helos.  In the annals of contests, sometimes the excitement is not between first or second, but the claw and fang struggle for that coveted third place.  (“I gotta be in the winner’s circle or I’ll die!”)  Ship It! and Team Helos’ scores were tied until Round Seven!  Ship It! finally grabbed the third place honors in the very last round with some statistician tactician wizardry by getting more correct capital cities with population increases.  That’s the King Trivia Pub Quiz story for Thursday, June 1st,  2017 and I’m sticking to it!

The crowd at the Lion & Crown were laid back and friendly this last Thursday.  Repeat teams Rogue One and Ninja Turtles acquitted themselves very well as did new teams Ship It!, PBR2D2, Foot Clan and Bunco Babes.  Once things got going, the atmosphere got more enthusiastic.  My personal rendition of the Theme from Superman evoked smirks of mirth during Round 3 - So Fly; And, team Foot Clan raised the decibel level when they pulled ahead by Double or Nothing in Round 5 - Find the Connection.  (Somebody in that group must be a mustache aficionado!)  Looking forward to next week!
