Six Teams in. Three teams out. That's how it works in the
Thunderdome of King Trivia Pub Quiz at the Lion & Crown Pub
on Thursdays! Quiz Master Lou was a little worried when he
first arrived because the place looked dead. But then, as
the magic hour arrived, so too did the quiz teams!
Deadly Alliance trailed all night until Round Five when a very
strategic Double-or-Nothing put them out front and kept then
there until game's end awarding them First Place! The Rockerfellers
got Second while FNG's placed Third.
Pickles on a Plate hit that 4th place slot again. Newbies In the
Cloud ran last all night, but then registered their team, got
the two point bonus and wound up in Fifth, while Bar Guy slipped
on a DoN in the last round and lastly ended up last.
Some more great trivia questions from our quiz writers which
produced such gems as...
*The Picture Round demanded identification of cartoon birds.
Like Tweety Bird and Scrooge McDuck. The mirth kicked in when
one wag labeled Zazu (from Lion King) as Pazoozoo, which was
the demon from The Exorcist! I don't know what possessed them!
*The FIND THE CONNECTION Round's clever joiner was that all
the answers were acronyms, but one team's hapless answer was
that "They're a lot more fun when you're drunk!"
*Finally, Round Seven's List the U.S. Presidents that never
earned a college degree engendered an eruption of errata; ergo
the perception of intelligence vs. know-how. This prompted
QM Lou to consider suggesting that Mike Rowe do a special
DIRTY JOBS epsiode on the POTUS!
That's all I got! Have a great weekend, everybody!
Last night's pub quiz was similar to the Andromeda Strain, in
that the number of teams kept growing even after the game had
started, despite the fact that it was in a vacuum bombarded by
electrons. Umm, that last part was about Andromeda's growth
capacity, not the pub teams. Although...
We started off with eight teams but grew into eleven by the
time round two had started because, well... Ours goes to 11!
Newbies the River Rats showed up late but had fun scurrying
about the wharf despite ending up in ninth place. Han Solo
shot first but finished seventh. Velvet Hammered showed up
late and then dropped out early. Newbies 2 Dumb Dudes neither
lived up or down to their moniker placing eighth. The Dog
Whisperer returned after a long absence. I guess it took a
long time to hear the quiz whistle? The FNG's (ask them what
that stands for) achieved a lead in round three but ended in
fifth after two failed Double-or-Nothing's. Pickles on a Plate
remained stalwart and honorary though just outside the winner's
circle in fourth. The Rockerfellers reasserted themselves and
nicked a third place win but the real drama came when Deadly
Alliance fought a tie-breaker with old-bie (that's a term that
means the team name is registered but they haven't shown up to
play in dog's years!) Costco School of Law for first place!
CSoL won the contest all by his lonesome, putting him on a par
with VH for the 50 lb brain club!
Another noteworthy quiz from our western overlords with a diverse
sampler of license plates, rock bands, alcoholic beverages and
board games. Our mirth award goes to the team that confused
Boston's guitar shaped space craft for the Bezos shaped one.
That's all I got! Quiz Master Lou signing off!

Post Independence Day jollity with increased headcount dominated
proceedings at ye olde Lion & Crown in Watters Creek last night
as eleven teams ("Ours goes to eleven!" with apologies to Nigel
Tufnel) competed.
Two newbies, styling themselves the Miss Fits and Dumb & Dumber,
learned the hard way that all our regular teams are sharks.
Apropos as there was a shark question in Round Three. But they
had fun anyway.
The Bumble Bees and the FNG's gambled and lost on the old Double
-or-Nothing. You know, sometimes you think you know, but then
you find out you don't know. You know?
Velvet Hammered did well until the end, then either retired
due to being well hammered by well drinks, or maybe he just
got lucky? Oh, well...
Pickles on a Plate were great, but just couldn't penetrate the
winner's circle this time. Maybe they weren't pickled enough?
The Rockerfellers, slightly undermanned this week, fell from
grace after a five week straight winning streak. (You see?!?
It can happen!)
Our long absent friends Street Smarts snagged a well deserved
third place prize. They also get an honorable mention because
Quiz Master Lou forgot to charge his phone before coming to the
pub and was in danger of losing power before game's end! Not
to worry. Street Smarts came to the rescue with a portable
battery and kept QM Lou's phone in wireless juice til the end.
Kudos to you!
Deadly Alliance proved they were still deadlier than most by
earning a second place win while the Dallas Booler's Club went
out in style with first! The DBC will all be going back to
school so I'm told this is their summer swan song. Perhaps
we may see disparate elements of the group from time to time...
Time enough for this missive. Time's up! I'm out of time.
Yet time is eternal, so does a clock tick if no one's there
to experince it? Mull that one over if you have the time...
