Normally, I don’t start off a recap with praise for the serving staff , but you’ve got to hand it to the Lion & Crown Pub at Watter’s Creek for managing a packed house last night. Not only was the King Trivia crowd there, but a large party of revelers who identified as a group (someone said something about Porsche, but I could be mistaken…) dominated the main tables, squeezing the KT teams into back booths, bar stools and what have you. Even so, the employees at L&C manipulated the chaos like a union stage crew at the Cirque du Soleil! Well done Derek, Kito and team!
Welcome to new teams Toni & Gals and Rockefeller. The usual suspects showed up as well, making it a spirited evening of fun and games. The Ninja Turtles reclaimed their championship title with a first place win and excitement was had as Beer Logic won a tie breaker with Pickles on a Plate for the second and third spots respectively.
Every now and then, by chance circumstance, someone says something, it gets a huge reaction, and it becomes a thing. Well, that happened last night when team Pickles couldn’t think of The Lorax’s name and wrote in the desperation guess of Carbonic Walrus! Well, that did it. Carbonic Walrus became the default answer to Jazz Musicians and what have you after that.

Action at the Lion & Crown in Allen, Texas included four (count ‘em!) new teams last night. Welcome to Team Testa, Team Ram Jam, the Kung Fu Pandas and the Dim Bulbs (who grow tall and dark!).
Suffice it to say it was a close edged competition with no less than four (count ‘em!) contestants tied for first place at the end of Round 4! But after all was said and done, Stealth Texas swooped in for the First Place honors while Pickles on a Plate and IFFY! took second and third respectively.
SPECIAL AMUSEMENT AWARDS: Every so often, when a team doesn’t know the answer, they throw in a non sequitur in desperation. Often they are hilarious. In honor of these improvised wits that go down with the ship, Quizmaster Lou spotlights the efforts of these defiant misfires!
Misidentified: Sheryl Sandberg is neither Chesty Larue nor Jenna Jameson. Mary Barra isn’t Alexis Texas, either.
Politically Incorrect: Round 7 provided some guesses at some countries you wouldn’t want to eat in and we won’t mention them here!
Self Deprecating: Quizmaster Lou calling Crochet “Croquet” and then finally figuring out why he never got the ball through the wicket with a hook and needle!
SPECIAL SMART AWARDS: Blood, Bath & Beyond deserves special mention for being the only team that knew what a syzygy was! (And I was the only one in the joint who thought it was an X-Files episode…)

King Trivia Pub Quiz maxed out at a new record of fourteen (14) teams last night at the reliable Lion & Crown in Watter’s Creek. Things got so crowded that The Misfits singleton (Shawn/Sean?) who showed up jumped ship and joined up with Stealth Texas. Welcome to the curious couple calling themselves Guess-a-Lot, who did well but realized they were sharks swimming with killer whales! The last minute joiners, Periodic Table Dancers, joined in for the fun, but left early, being itinerant quiz buffs. Must’ve been the elements.
Men of Troy astounded last night with a Double or Nothing win in the first round, only to be shown up slightly by the father and daughter sensation, The Hilltoppers, who then did likewise in round two! And that was the way it was for the rest of the evening… Hilltoppers stayed above the fray with a narrow but ever growing lead all the way to the end of the game with Men of Troy defending the second position all the way. Stealth Texas shadowed their way to a third place win.
