It was the post California Recall Election Day. It was the day that the covid circus tent came down from the pandemic pause parking lot location. We will take any excuse or reason to party on a Wednesday Hump night in the back room of the Recess Room! Bring on the Happy Hour specials and lets get ready to rumble!
Ava's Minions came as a trio with Bryan looking like a proper gent in his suit from work with lovely Yvonne and his daughter Veronica for their award winning night in second place again. Well done.
Matt was the Thirsty Pretzel solo as the others were suppose to arrive yet didn't make it. We understand. We hope to see more of you next Wednesday for the Disney week with King Trivia.
Chris with Tapped Out was in the house as well as the return of the Ultimate Warriors rock duo.
Plus Highway Star Keit won his 16th week in a row straight win!!! Wow!! Congratulations!!!!
Round 1 General Knowledge involved the top 25 Instagrammers, Newton, Lanai, Pompeii and Yom Kippur.
Round 2 was the blue picture handout to Id the blue characters involving a cookie lover, a genie in a bottle, a friend of Ernie with a long nose, Neytiri, Sulley, Manhattan, a colorful pony and a purple flower named woman.
Round 3 was Shoe Fly! A round about colorful footwear and insects (hopefully no bees in one's boots!) It involved a leg count, charming foam shoes, a non-class insect, Converse All Stars, Silence of the Lambs and Spanish shoes.
Round 4 guess who involves a singer who loves the holidays. Enough said, you have to be here to get all the inside scoop!
Round 5 - Find the Connection involved a book series, This Is Us, Elvis, a Premier Football team, a political rock band, a Sonoma County winery, sports, hair dryers and a valley punk.
Round 6 handout was "Let Me See That Song!" Match the Song of the Year Grammy winner to the artist. It involved a piano man, a Sting operation, a Happy Bobby, daughters, an Irish rock band, a Rose, a bridge, a head turner, an actress's eyes and a tragedy.
Round 7 is the final countdown with all hands on deck or in this case, all hands on the table for the Last Supper as this round is entitled "Jesus is my Homeboy". (Forgive me Lord as I have attended 11 years of Catholic schools!) This round involved naming 10 of the 12 apostles but no James. Mark my word, what a round. Good time to remember Bible Study classes.
Thank you to the great staff at RR - Roy, Joe, Thomas, Ivan, Jorge, Hope, Grace and the hardworking kitchen staff plus the owners! Invite your friends and family to join us next week.
My odd selfie of the week is my mail order caftan as I am a member of the Aloha Caftan Society OC group of the original group which came about several years ago via Tiki Oasis San Diego. Watch out for the fun Tiki Halloween treats coming up at the Recess Room for Rocktober Halloween time!!!
Thank you to the night warriors who came out to play on this post Labor Day Holiday weekend. We had three returning team and three new teams. Welcome to the new teams.
We played in the back room and it was a pleasant night yet there was one team who were possible high school cheerleaders back in the day as they cheered for every answer, right or wrong and loved to talk and talk. I bet they are fun on a rollercoaster screaming. The secret to Happy Hour drinks is to eat to absorb Mr. Al K. Hall. Just saying! We were all amused by their antics as we had no choice in spite of gentle yet assertive suggestions to ' listen to the quizmaster'. Thankful they had to exit before the last rounds and walk the long way home as they had work in the morning. Whew! Thank you everyone for being gracious to them as they were oblivious to glaring glances and other hints. This is why teachers get burnt out!
Sooooo here is the recap of the 7 rounds! Round one for General Knowledge involved a tricky Dick, a character named Pikacho, how to make basil, the author of the best selling book The Outsiders and the peace organization that founded International Literacy Day. (Insert the high pitch screaming duo's responds after every answer.)
Round 2- Picture Round entitled Hip Hop XX to identify the female rapper. Some gals almost know all their rappers. It involved a Queen, a B, a Hill, a Minaj, a Missy, an Azalea, a Cat and a former virgin. A very loud answer time. This reminds me of the quote on a sand sculpture on the sands of Balboa Island. 'Stop trying to please everyone. You are not tequila!"
Round 3 - The Loser's Circle-A round about famous losers. Six questions involving the Battle of Waterloo, the 2017 Oscars Best Picture, Buffalo, the singer to a loser song, a chess game and the first season of American Idol.
Round 4 - Guess Who is a she but who can she be? Let's just put it this way, she is the former bf of Wyona Ryder as this 'friend' stole her role in Shakespeare in Love and won an Oscar for it. The downfall of Wyona's bad habits might have been PTSD from the fallout.
Round 5 - Find the Connection. A great round for 3 teams who did Double or Nothing to earn 20 points for a 10 point round. This round involved a Queen, a shiny bling which is the hardest natural substance on Earth, 80s actors, Edmonton Oilers, the Tin Man, the Golden Bear (not the one in HB where I went on a blind date in 1977 to see Detective play with my future father of my two children), the catchphrase 'Alrighty then', a Joker, sporting equipment with wedges, woods and irons. You had to be here to play this hand to know the answer.
Round 6 - handout of Prime Time Players list of match the SNL character to the cast member. This 10 round was another success for two Double or Nothing winners. It involved the deceased funny wife of Gene Wilder, Gilly, Gumby, Molly, a Foley (not my ex Irish bf who dumped me because of my strict upbringing!) a Maya, an Opera lover, a downer and Stefan!
Round 7 was Painting by Numbers round to list the ten artists who created the ten most expensive paintings ever sold (value measured with inflation adjusted value). The artists hints are two Pauls, one Pablo, a Ninja turtle name, Willem, a Jackson, GK, Mark, Rembrandt, and Amedeo (a word from Bohemian Rhapsody!).
Thanks again to the great busy Recess Room staff for another wonderful night and congratulations to Highway Star Keit for your 15TH weeks in the #1 winning spot. Well done! (Note the newbie team Podd Squad was just 6 points away!) Have a great week. Plan to join us next Wednesday for another intriguing, mind challenging fun time with King Trivia at the Recess Room!!!

Full house! Love it! Kiet and company (Evelyn, Jerry, Jana and ?) helped to keep the winning streak to now 14 weeks at #1!!
The three newbies playing joined by default as the restaurant was full so that got an open 4 top. They liked the energy and they did so well they earned 2nd place. Their team name is 118 Cake which is the bakery name for Ivy's bakery. She is excited about her US citizenship becoming official next week and we gave her a cheering round of applause as recognition of support. Ivy's girlfriend on her team is actress Jessica aka Truc Diem who was in the movie "How To Fight In 6 Inch Heels". Long rounded out the winning team but he left before the end so we didn't get his picture.
Round 1 General Knowledge was 6 questions involving Sept. 1st 1985, the 7 dwarves, Shakespeare, the Parthenon and a chess grandmaster.
Round 2 was the color picture round handout of 'Here's The Pitch' to identify the TV infomercial products. The 10 answers involved a sham, a gym, a fighter's grill, a snuggie, Suzanne Somers, a type of chop, a cleaning product and a fishing tool.
Round 3 was Pin and Needles theme about wrestlers who became actors and medicine. The clues were the 2006 movie 'The Marine', a 1986 breakthrough by Patricia Bath about a system to remove eye-clouding ailments, Drax in the MCU, an info medical site by Jeff Arnold in 1998, "Thunderlips" and the name of the largest private healthcare provider in the US.
Round 4 was Guess Who with a fascinating clue about this mega metal star's unique DNA which explains a lot about his lifestyle.
Round 5 was Find the Connection involving 9 clues and the 10th question of what is the connection. The clues involved Monster's Inc., Dave Thomas, the Three Stooges, Ray Mancini's nickname, a brand of table salt, the front man of Motörhead, the generic name for a fuel tanker, the same nickname of two famous people, Robert Redford which equals a childhood game's villains.
Round 6 handout theme was 'A Bit of Late Night' to match the recurring bit to the late night host. Out of the 10 comics listed, I only met one and it is Jay Leno. Back in the day, I have met Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin and Jim Carey. So the 9 other comics/late night show hosts feature one who has played the Pacific Amphitheatre, Conan, Seth, Kimmel, Letterman, Lilly,. Wilmer, Chelsea, Aresnio and James Corden.
Round 7 is the honor round when every team self scores their team's answer just like in school because here in the Recess Room we have all types of fun! Lots of double or nothing success. The question for the Designated Survivors round name 10 of the 15 executive departments in the US President's Cabinet.
Thank you to all the wonderful staff for another great night! See you all next week. I hear October is going to be uniquely special in the Recess Room so stay tuned!
