Riddle me this: What do King Trivia pens and my ex-boyfriend have in common? (Answer below.)
We were happy to have newcomers Nomessina' Round join us at Round 3. Though they were tricked by Alice Cooper in Round 4 and just flat out stumped by La Croix flavors, they enjoyed themselves. Just Da Tip was bested by a double-down mishap on celebrity brands, and although Fickle Pickles kept their cool, not doubling down at all kept them from placing.
Ava's Minions missed out on a chance to double down in Round 6, which cost them first, but they were happy to at least have something to contribute to the pig's head pot. The fun came down to our Tournament of Champions experts -- freshly cut Highway Stars and free appetizer-fed Thirsty Pretzels!
Although neck in neck for the majority of the game, Highway Stars ultimately lost to Thirsty Pretzels by one lousy point because they forgot to turn in their pen! Both teams got the tiebreaker question just for funsies, and there was perhaps a little redemption knowing that even if they did tie, Thirsty Pretzels would have had the closest tiebreaker guess.
Riddle answer: They both cause way too much heartbreak and disappointment for being so small and cheap.
Tonight's game was rough for Just Da Tip and Thirsty Pretzels, who both lost a point in Round 4 because "The Simpsons" wasn't close enough to "Rick and Morty," and "Sesame Street" was definitely NOT in that ballpark. Both teams were also bested by Gloria Estefan in Round 6, resulting in a failed double down.
But the game was close between Highway Stars and Ava's Minions (plus Ava!). They both took the lead on general knowledge, and both correctly doubled down on their turkey leftovers. Highway Stars knew more Indiana Jones connections, but Ava's Minions did better on song titles, ultimately adding $40 more to that pig's head pot.
I don't know what was in Orange County's water today, but whatever it is, we should have more of it! Everyone decided TONIGHT was THE night for King Trivia at the Recess Room, and it was great having a full house with some unpredictable competition!
We were graced with the return of Fickle Pickles and the debut of Just Da Tip.
Atari Kobayashi lost their mojo after losing a point on Round 4, but they still enjoyed themselves. Thirsty Pretzels was the first to figure out Harvard University was tonight's Guess Where?, and got to chow down on a free appetizer for their efforts.
The excitement came down between Thirsty Pretzels, Highway Stars, and Recess Room newbs Church of Quizentology, whose fresh faces and minds caused a [very welcoming] upset with their presence! They had a strong lead through a good chunk of the game, but their lack of confidence doubling down on pilgrims and sauce connections cost them anything more than third place. Thirsty Pretzel's geography smarts helped out in Round 7, but were just one point shy of defeating champions Highway Stars (who nearly fell victim to a fatal miscount, but let's not talk about that, shall we?).
