QUIZ RECAP

Today was a major Recess Room King Trivia milestone with Keit of Highway Star on an amazing winning streak of 9 wins in a row!!! Will he make it for 10???

The veteran returning teams were up for the challenge to try to upseat our reigning king! 

Keit did win his 10th trivia night in a row and I am looking to establish our own unique trophy for the weekly winner. 

Keit had a previous trivia trophy pic as a reference. We will try to make it even more spectactular!!

Ava's Minions did well with Veronica and a family friend. Implication started with 6 but then Diego and Bridget went to the OC Fair. Tough to compete with the lure of the annual fair! All in all, the remaining foursome came in 2nd place just 5 points shy of doing a tie breaker with Highway Star! Yikes!! So close. There is those Double or Nothing rounds to gamble on when possible.

I am back still spiriting my ohana spirit after 4 fun days and nights at Tiki Oasis in San Diego. I posted my weekend pic with a hairy primate! Bartender Joe is a longtime Tiki fan too and he drove his motorcycle to it with his 10 rolled up tiki shirts in his backpack. Easy rider!

Round 1 of General Knowledge involved the Jungle Cruise,  the letter A, a classic sitcom, the city of Brotherly Love, India and chocolate chip cookies! 

Round 2 was the full color picture round of Growing Pains to identify the "coming of age" movies. I like Keit's hint about the correct title for one of the pics  'Count the candles for the title!'

Round 3 was the Superfood for Thought round about superfoods and philosophy. Yes Highway Star, that philosophy degree comes in handy.  Lots of fun facts involving chia, Aristole, Curcumin, Soren Kieregaard, quinoa  and kintsugi. 

Round 4 for Guess Who was a music artist who knows how to play all the right keys and sings in A minor. Hint hint. This girl is on fire!

Round 5 for Find the Connection was 9 questions involving Dodge pick ups, Twins, Drake, Annie Oakley, US Virgin islands, a rangoon, MGM studios, Malory, a popular touring band plus the 10th question of what do they all have in common. As a Libra always seeking balance, I would love to tell you but you have to be here to know!!

The Round 6 handout was the Genus IQ with no missing "I" in the title as this round involved genes to match the animal to its scientific name. So don't have a 'bos taurus'! Go ride a 'equus caballas'. Go swimming with a 'delphinus delphis' and come play with us next Wednesday!!

Finally Round 7 was less complicated than in weeks gone by. Tonight's question was 'Second in Command' to name the 10 most recent US Vice Presidents. 

Our August theme for the last week of the month is....The 80s!! We cover the music  movies and more. Please wear  your favourite 80s band tshirt or dress as your favorite person from the 80s for Wed. August 25th (just 4 months til Christmas countdown...I will probably play some Christmas music here and there!!)

Matt of Thirsty Pretzels took the night off but his two family members did great getting 3rd place.

QUIZ RECAP

Aloha! Luau night as part of the Countdown to Tiki Oasis San Diego from July 29 - Aug. 1. This is my 3rd time to attend. Recess Room's bartender Joe is a longtime tiki bartender (note Tiki Thursdays at the Recess Room!) Joe will be Easy Rider on his motorcycle taking the coastal route to the Town & Country. Thank you to Chris from Tapped Out who wore Hawaii logo hat and tshirt plus a tiki bottle opener.  He won a prize of a tye dye kit. We keep it colorful with our prizes.  Enough about us, lets talk about the weekly  trivia takeover at the Recess Room. 

Round 1 General Knowledge covered 155th Street in NYC, The Last Supper, the Oregon Trail, Cambridge and Snoop Dogg. 

Round 2 is Eyes on the Prize with Identify the Civil Rights pioneer involving Angela Davis, MLK, Malcom X, Jesse Jackson, Rosa Parks and more. 

Round 3 is Behind the Music - a round about overqualified 'backup" singers involving, Dire Straits, R.E.M. , Eddie Murphy, Chaka Khan, Kelis and Queen Latifah. 

Round 4 is the Guess Who round about a beautiful model from Europe with major coverage in special editions, TV shows and married to a well known singer. Our lips are sealed who she is....you had to be here. 

Round 5 Find The Connection involved Pharell, Univetsity of Tennessee, Prospero, Neil Diamond, Gracie and Frankie, Firge, Henry Hudson  Atomic #14, Ballroom Blitz. So what is the connection?   Come next week and we will tell you. 

Round 6 is the Rappers IRL of matching the rapper to their stage name involving Jay Z, Cardi B Doha Cat and more. 

Round 7 is the Girl Boss round. Since 1924, 44 women have served as or are currently serving as the governor of a US state.

QUIZ RECAP

Christmas In July folks as we five months away from the big day! Santa is still on Corona timeout so the white bearded one was not with us and neither was Jerry who could be Santa at our December Ugly Sweater Holiday Triiva night!

Thank you to holiday sweater winner Jeremy of the team Implication and he loves his trophy prize of a silver new drink mixer. Also congrats to Holiday centerpiece winner Chris of Tapped Out. It pays to play!! Welcome to Mark from Sacramento who came to be on Chris' team! 

We were inside in our "play room" due to the heat. We had the return of The Bogies with originals Julian and Steven pkus their friends Robin and another friend. 

Also, welcome to a King Trivia team online and back out in the fresh air - the Howie Mandel Effect! I forgot to share that I have met Howie several times as I have asked him interview questions at the TCA annual event for the Television Critics Association showcase and previews of shows plus I was a flash mob dancer in DTLA for his TV show. He actually recognized me and touched my arm so another writer exclaimed "I thought you don't touch people?" Howie quickly replied "I touch people but I don't want others to touch me!" (I remember first spotting Howie in Studio City at a drive up photo develop booth back in the day in the 1980s. Yes, I have been around before phone cameras!) Small world is that a longtime Hollywood clotheswapper friend is his press agent. 

Enough of Pop Culture History according to Lorraine, lets review our Hump Day Happiness which is Free Whiskey Tasting with tonight's selections from the Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan. I had a wee drop of #LastFeatherRye'. So smooth! It took the edge off me for forgetting the Christmas lights decorations!

Soooo Round 1- General Knowledge covering Adele, a Mantle, Scooby-Doo, a future Supreme Court Justice, Night of the Living Dead and hot dogs!!

Round 2 was the Picture Round of "Tearing Into The Books" where trivia whiz kids identify the title of the book from its torn, first edition cover.

Round 3 was "Think Pink!" A round about "pink" things which involved umami, a funny face, Dumbo, a pink medicine and a person with pink in his name.

Round 4 was Guess Who about a fictional lovable character who rode out Hurricane Carmen and he taught Elvis how to fo his signature hip swinging dance. (I never met Elvis but I know a few impersonators!)

Round 5 is the long 10 questions for Find The Connection which involved Ohio State, a Leaf that drives, a FROG that people wear for protection, Daphne from Frasier, Mike Hammer (I do have a Stacey Keach story but you have to be there to hear the inside scoop!"), a Barracuda, a conch shell, hedgehog, porcini and a 1927 silent movie. Ah the suspense!!

Round 6 - "Release the question!' 🙂 Yes Keit!! This is the matching handout of Real winners where the players match the winning contestant to the reality show which involved The Voice, Last Comic Standing, Survivor and the usual night time TV roundup. Highway Star was on another solo roll of lots of Double or Nothings! Well played! 

Round 7 was a set of two parts for just a total of 10 minutes to answer which involved "Grillin' With Gas". 

Congratulations to all 22 players and 7 teams for another fun night.
