"Slow and steady wins the race" was this week's mantra! Round 2 was a bunch of "bull," but writing utensil connections and Subway locations were a breeze! The key was just to keep your cool, even with the easy rounds.
Thirsty Pretzels held the lead through the entire game, only doubling down on general knowledge. They were only one point ahead of Highway Stars and Ava's Minions when two failed double downs on TV series endings from both teams gave Thirsty Pretzels a boost they didn't even work for!
Highway Stars still got third place winnings, and Ava's Minions got a free appetizer for being the first team to know Peter Parker was tonight's Guess Who. This was much to the dismay of Highway Stars, WITH THE COMIC BOOK MASTER ON THEIR TEAM, who jumped the shark a little too early, and had to accept the loss of one precious point.
The circumstances of the evening worked out very well for birthday group #1 Knock On Wood, who jumped from fifth to a second-place tie just from the other teams' double-down disasters. What a comeback! Birthday group #2 Kodesies Klan and Asians Who Don't Raisin didn't benefit too much from being slow and steady, but at least fun was had by all!
Easier-than-usual questions made for a super fun first night of King Trivia for some, but a few lost opportunities for maximum points for others.
Most everyone doubled down correctly on their birds, provided it slipped your mind that a Canada goose wasn't a duck and a cardinal isn't a robin, making it harder to catch up for the rest of the game (apologies to Crazy Rich Asians and Thirsty Pretzels). Mountain ranges and Matt Damon movies were the trickiest rounds, with most everyone knowing their general knowledge, Raven Symone, Disney characters, and international desserts!
Veteran Home Team and King Trivia virgins Czarina were not so smart that they remembered their pen at the end of the game -- so we had to do a tiebreaker question to determine who would go home with the best ranking and best prize. It all worked out with Home Team winning first place, but allowed Czarina to go home with the $40 prize. This meant Ava's Minions could go home with $20, and Knock on Wood to go home with $10. A superb night all around!

Strong acids? Some of you haven't done that since the 80's! Bah-ziiiing!
But besides that unexpected wrench in your game, everyone did pretty well on tonight's questions. Ava's Minions was the only team that risked a debut album double-down (a decision made by a rock-paper-scissors game, no less), which led to their victory.
Thirsty Pretzels brought the whole Rold Gold bag to play, but their lack of faith in "All About Eve" kept them from doubling down on our fun haiku round was only good enough for the second place prize. They also were the first team to figure out that the Matterhorn was our Guess What? of the week, so they got a free appetizer on the house. How they split that between a zillion team members, we'll never know.
Win Or Lose We Still Booze got to win and booze, even if the win was only a $10 gift card. Any day is a good day to beat out Home Team, who had no comic book or superhero rounds to help give him the winning boost he's been missing out on. Better luck next time, Kiet!
