We were happy to have some oldies and some newbies join us at the Recess Room for King Trivia fun!
The Ballkickers came to check out the scene, and although they were the caboose of tonight's winner train, they had fun, and gave the ol' double-down-on-everything-because-what-do-we-have-to-lose strategy a go. Areaa was supposed to strictly just be in for a meeting, but as it turns out, King Trivia makes for a good team building exercise!
Ava's Minions had a volcanic double-down whoopsie daisy, which put them in fifth place -- but we're just considering this a warmup for their Season 11 stats.
Baby Cheeses, on the other hand, would have taken home the gold if they doubled down on their Z themes and volcano locations. But playing it safe (and having that confidence in 2020 Best Picture nominees) still sent them home with $10.
Thirsty Pretzels were dominating practically through the whole game, but Highway Stars doubled down on their Academy Award favorites, stealing the win out from under their noses. But they did get a free appetizer for being the first to guess Gwyneth Paltrow (and NOT Drew Barrymore) as our Guess Who? of the week. So even a group of Pretzels can't be THAT salty with their placing, can they?
Shout out to everyone who chose King Trivia at the Recess Room with Quizmaster Charlotte over the first of the Jeopardy! GOAT games. You guys made the first game of 2019 2020 a fantastic one!
It was a very close game, with Thirsty Pretzels barely holding on to the lead from Round 3 to Round 6. They finally pulled ahead after Round 7, in which several people needed a few extra minutes to remember President Arthur.
I Thought This Was Speed Dating barely beat out the lone Highway Star for third place, and also got free food for being the first team to correctly figure out "Fight Club" was our Guess What? of the week. DAMN IT, I just broke that rule AGAIN!
The Recess Room's final King Trivia of 2019 was a magnificent success for numerous reasons:
1. Even though Thirsty Pretzels didn't have the best night, they're still in the running for the Tournament of Champions, so they had nothing to stress over.
2. The Pathological Lawyers did NOT come in last place, and they had one hell of a good time.
3. Ian was not able to join team Fuck Ian, but ya know what, YOU DON'T NEED HIM ANYWAY. Y'all did just fine on your own. You hear that, Ian? FINE.
4. Daddy Down showed up with newbies to form The Gang Does Trivia, and they were warmly welcomed back after a long hiatus.
5. Baby Cheeses got the last available table, much to their relief. This meant no one was left without a seat, much to your Quizmaster's relief. They almost accepted defeat and surrender of their third place prize upon realizing they didn't know squat about Mortal Kombat II "kombatants," but in a wild stroke of luck, no one ranked below them didn't know squat either!
6. Ava's Minions could celebrate with a shrimp on the barbie, mate! They had an Australian on their team to help them with all [one] of the Australian questions, which [somewhat] singlehandedly contributed to their second place victory!
7. And Highway Stars, after dying for a Recess Room win over the past couple weeks, finally got first place and a free appetizer for being the first to nail Alfred E. Neuman as the Guess Who? of the week. They fouled up on a 'stachy double down, but got the MAD Magazine mascot on the 10-point clue, doubled down on "The Office" connections, and aced (though doubling down would have been to much of a slaughter) their "kombatants."
Well done, my merry little elves! Enjoy your holidays, and I'll see you all in 2020!
