Most of our regular teams were out getting an early start to their Independence Day celebrations, but the Thirsty Pretzels believe an American-themed King Trivia evening is the only way to do it! They split and shared their resources with the Home Team for a grand total of three teams.
Home and Away Team and Thirsty Pretzels were pretty much neck-in-neck up until Round 6, when Home and Away Team knew their "American" songs better than anyone else, taking the lead, and eventually, the $40 gift card, leaving the Thirsty Pretzels with $20. Matt Is Better, who showed up during Round 5, purposely did not double down on our Benjamin Franklin connection to let the others have a fair shot at winning (that's the story we're sticking with, anyway!), so he barely got 3rd place and the $10 gift card.
Putin likes to meddle in elections AND King Trivia questions -- so we all were forced to learn a lot more our about flags, sovereign states, and Russia than we intended tonight. Hooray for Wikipedia!

Even by the beginning of Round 7, I would not have bet any money on how teams were going to place tonight. Not only did everyone know their stuff, but strategy really came into play for this game as well.
Thirsty Pretzels started the game off strong, like always. Then the Home Team doubled down for knowing his cartoons (nerd!). Then I Thought This Was Speed Dating jumped into the lead thanks to their mega crush on Donald Glover. They held their lead (but not by much) while they and Stream Team refused to double down on the Round 6, while the other three teams got a massive beating from incorrect double-downs.
Ultimately, it was I Thought This Was Speed Dating that took home the $40 first place prize, while newbies Stream Team went home with $20 (and should come back next week, like they promised!), and the Home Team took home $10 in Recess Room currency. Because League of Champions statuses were at stake, Thirsty Pretzels and Knock On Wood had to duke it out for the fourth place title at the end of the game -- both going way over on their inline skating guesses, but Knock On Wood was only 879 off.
Part of the King Trivia fun is learning neat little random tidbits, and EVERYONE is going to remember for the rest of their lives what "obscura" does NOT mean in Latin! D'oh!
Some higher power -- and definitely not a giant party full of doctors -- decided everyone needed a little fresh air tonight, so we all played King Trivia on the slightly chilly patio. Nothing a jacket, blanket, or a tall glass of beer couldn't fix!
First-time players Kein Idee joined us at Round 3, which if they hadn't, would've given the Home Team a run for his $10 gift card! Knock On Wood came in second and claimed their $20 prize, while Thirsty Pretzels dominated and took home the $40 gift card (and a free appetizer!)!
Everyone knew their Nixon/cake/retailer trivia, but we all struggled with Tony award-winning musical dates. And by "we," I mean everyone except the theatre-loving Quizmaster; I would've made a great teammate tonight!
