The Recess Room almost had a full house for King Trivia! Knock on Wood brought the whole herd, and the whole TTC Masters staff left work to come try their hand at King Trivia. Challenging competition + great sportsmanship + fantastic energy = the perfect night.
TTC Masters and Asians Who Don't Raisin couldn't figure out our Guess Who? of the week was Demi Moore, and combined with every other team doubling down correctly on TV catchphrases, ended up at the bottom of the barrel in spite of scores that were actually impressive. 2 Dads 2 Furious: Daddy Drift, only composed of two "backbone" team members, started off with a strong double down, but weren't able to place any higher than fourth. Don't worry, we'll keep that a secret from the rest of your team!
Knock on Wood held their lead by a thread from Rounds 2 up through Round 6. The Implication was hot on their heels, with an extra double down on star connections to catch up. Because The Implication knew slightly more about the Kardashian/Jenner clan than Knock on Wood (still no judgment), they ended up having to duke it out at the tiebreaker question. Sheer luck was all it took at that point for The Implication to take home the silver, and send Knock on Wood home with the bronze.
Thirsty Pretzels took home a free appetizer for their Demi Moore guess, and the first place prize for the evening! We were really rooting for them to score a PERFECT GAME, but they missed out on three double-down opportunities on the first three rounds, and ONLY scored 8 out of 10 points on their star connections. Here's to next week, Pretzels!

What a great night for Quizmaster Charlotte to relax a little with extra bathroom trips while Quizmaster-in-Training Elliot handled our themed round and Guess Who? round like a pro!
Sub Zero Points was back, but missing out on the [incredibly easy] first round may have thrown off their game. They went home with naught but a "I'm so glad to see you guys again, I missed you!", which doesn't quite ignite the same excitement as "Have some money!" but they were still polite about it.
Thirsty Pretzels, whose team name finally had some relevancy to a couple of tonight's questions, got a free appetizer for being the first team to guess George Costanza as our Guess Who? of the week. And while they were the only team to not double down in our general knowledge round, they kicked ass and took names with their knowledge on NFL quarterbacks and Iron Curtain countries!
Thirsty Pretzels' win came as a surprise to few, as it's well-known geography is one of their strengths. But a successful double down on the challenging Round 7 from The Implication did come as a pleasant surprise (and maybe a not-so-pleasant surprise to Highway Stars, who missed out on a second place ranking by four points as a result).
Tonight was also bartender Ava's last evening to witness the King Trivia fun! She and her delightfully purple hair are off to do great things. We'll miss you, Ava!

With the exception of a pretty lousy themed round, where the killjoy Quizmaster did not allow any names to JUST be "Oscar" or "Meyer," we had a fun, fast-paced game with lots of double-down opportunities.
Everyone excelled on purple people, child protagonists, and (double-down fails notwithstanding) FIFA countries. Everyone also did well on Round 4, where Guess Who? masters Thirsty Pretzels were the first to bring up Tyrion Lannister's name for a free appetizer, and Wood and Plenty were the last to figure him out by the 8-point clue.
Thirsty Pretzels held a solid third place ranking throughout the game, until they risked a double down on Round 7 and were betrayed by Uruguay. This meant they had to go head-to-head with Wood and Plenty to claim their third place prize, but the Woodies were significantly closer to guessing how many miles the Golden Gate Bridge ran.
The Implication held a solid lead up until Round 6, that is, until Ava's Minions doubled down with confidence on their authors. The Implication just could not catch up with so little time left, and they had to settle for the second place ranking. The rest of us all had to bend the knee to champions Ava's Minions, the true gods of tits and wine (beer?).
