New year, new you, new players! I missed you guys after a long two weeks off, and it was great seeing some Tournament of Champions finalists coming in to get some practice in!
Tonight's teams were challenged a bit more than usual, as both Area 51 and Return of the Home King were bested by the Empire State Building and sci-fi movies, while The Implication didn't get any chances to risk a double down all evening.
The showdown came between Daddy Down and Pweggle, who took turns in the lead all night [no thanks to your Quizmaster and her embarrassingly horrid math skills]. Pweggle was so close to the 1st place title, but they forgot to turn their pen in for one extra bonus point at the end of the game, so a tiebreaker question determined the fates of these two teams. Daddy Down had the closest guess as to how much the Cowardly Lion's costume auctioned off for ($86,000), and they got to take home $40 in Recess Room gift cards. Pweggle didn't lose all their pride -- they still got to take home $20 in gift cards. The Implication didn't do so bad themselves -- they took home a $10 gift card AND a free appetizer for being the first team to figure out the Empire State Building was tonight's Guess Where?.

We maxed out spots on the patio, the Recess Room maxed out on seating inside, and our King Trivia players maxed out on the fun!
While most teams struggled with Christmas birthdays and international Christmas figures, everyone knew all about Snoopy, Olympic Games states, and Indiana colleges.
Since Thirsty Pretzels were not here tonight, the double down curse passed on to The Implication during the Nutcracker round, forefeiting third place to Daddy Down. Roanoke You Didn't and Scrooge & Crew nailed that double down, however, and got to take home second and first place, respectively.
Wishing all my ho ho ho's the happiest of holidays and the safest of New Years! See you all in three short weeks!

What an honor to have King Trivia virgins join in the fun tonight! Ava's Minions finally mustered up the courage to join after weeks of eavesdropping, and they did really well for being first-timers.
Only three double-downs were attempted in our "art" connection round, boosting Tournament of Champions hopefuls Highway Stars, Daddy Down (no thanks to the fashion designer expert that was stuck at work during Round 2!), and super sexy birthday celebraters Knock on Wood to the top of the ranks tonight.
Thirsty Pretzels and The Implication had the same idea in throwing a Hail Mary double-down on super populated cities in 1900, but they still ended up tying for fourth. As for Only Here to Establish an Alibi... hopefully they got to do just that -- they were bested by that pesky Panama Canal and Zac Posen, and went home with full bellies and good company. (A gift card would've been better though, we know.)
See y'all out on the patio next week! Bring jackets, blankets, and/or a hot date to cuddle with!
