Since the Quizmaster's birthday is on Sunday, she was so excited to make this week aaaaaall about her... only to be upstaged by a Wooden birthday! It's an honor to share a birthday week with such a fun, loyal, and generous team -- almost everyone was able to get a slice of cake!
Saw some new faces here at the Recess Room! Jamaican Me Crazy was certainly not new to King Trivia, though -- he did great for being by himself, but he's gotta bring some serious backup to properly take down the locals. And Thumb Holes were first-time King Trivia players, though this couldn't have been their first pub quiz rodeo! They came in third place on their first night here, as well as a free appetizer for being the first team to correctly guess the Louvre as our Guess Where? of the week!
After weeks of cheating on the Quizmaster, The Implication dared to show their fifty zillion faces again, but ended up tying with birthday crew Knock On Wood for fourth in spite of their enormous quantity of brains. Better luck next time we see you guys [maybe, what, three months from now?].
Ava's Minions were too unsure of themselves to double down on their losing presidential candidates, but that's what would have saved the game for them. They were BARELY bested to the surprise and relief of Thirsty Pretzels, who probably got more lucky on their highest grossing tours than anything else.
The restaurant started off a little chilly, but not too far into the game things started getting HOT!
Knock On Wood and Ava's Minions started out with a strong lead, though both being too afraid to double down on their general knowledge. It was Knock On Wood's only opportunity, as they came so close on Rounds 5, 6, and 7 with 9 out of 10 correct answers each time. But it was still good enough to take home $10! Ava's Minions got overly excited on their NBA connections, but forgetting that John McCain was a maverick killed their double-down. They made up for it by slaying their Wild West icon round, working hard to take home that $20.
Thirsty Pretzels won a free appetizer for being the first team to correctly (much to their relief) guess Marge Simpson was our Guess Who? lady of the evening. That, combined with a successful double down on their winning FIFA teams brought them into first place, and they got to take home an additional $40 for knowing their stuff!
It was a bit of a rough night for Home Team, who was lucky enough to even know one of his "Champion" references; and for Win Or Lose, We Still Booze, who had to booze a bit after jumping the shark on Guess Who? and missing out on a successful FIFA double-down (which would have brought them straight into third place) by ONE lousy country. Gah!
High scores, prizes for everyone, and a rare opportunity to double down on Round 7... what a great night for Recess Room triviaphiles!
Thirsty Pretzels held a strong lead throughout the game, starting out with 14 points in the first round, and in spite of being the last team to guess Blockbuster as tonight's mystery company.
Ava's Minions weren't too far behind, nearly dominating in magazine connections, but their lack of confidence in doubling down on famous novel locations cost them the lead.
As far as cars on the point train goes, the Home Team was definitely the caboose -- but he got a free appetizer for being the first to correctly guess Round 4, so he certainly isn't a loser by any means!
