Tonight was full of wonderful trivia players and not a single putz was in sight! (Unless you were watching the State of the Union.)
Atari Kobayashi was back to brush off the dust. They'll be ready to kick ass the next time they come. Baby Cheeses took the lead on general knowledge, but were no match for video games, Yiddish words, or Academy Award-nominated actresses for this year.
Thirsty Pretzels threw Highway Stars for a loop by knowing as much about video game fighters as they did, but Highway Stars also doubled down on TV dads and all things corny to take the lead. Thirsty Pretzels MIGHT have come in third ONLY because Ava's Minions remembered to return their pen at the LAST minute.
Quizmaster Charlotte and Quizmaster-in-Training Lorraine teamed up to take the Recess Room by storm! We got to watch Baby Cheeses, Highway Stars, and Thirsty Pretzels fight tooth and nail for the top spot.
Baby Cheeses held a brief lead knowing more -ologies than anyone else, but got let down by Sonic the Hedgehog. They were still happy to take home $10 in Recess Room gift cards, I imagine.
Thirsty Pretzels had some doubt on their facial recognition of celebrities in Joker makeup, meaning they lost their chance for their only double-down of the evening. Knowing slightly more high-grossing James Bond movies than Baby Cheeses was just enough for them to take home the $20 second place prize.
And in spite of a failed double down in Round 2, Highway Stars took home $40 for perfect scores on all things Sonic (to no one's surprise), TV show connections, and an almost perfect score on fictional characters' other "halves."
It was a full house for King Trivia at the Recess Room! Now that's my kind of crowd!
Being only a few answers short of certainty, Thirsty Pretzels had another salty night, having no double downs to show and tying for the caboose with Hot to Tot. But if it's any consolation, tying with a Tournament of Champions contender made Hot to Tot feel loads better, so good karma is sure to grace the Pretzels soon!
Between King Trivia virgins Team A2i and The Losing Team, it was evident The Losing Team had the most appropriate name (it's called a self-fulfilling prophecy, guys). HOWEVER, it should be noted that they lost to Team A2i by six points, which they would have received had they doubled on their -ear rhymes. So as far as official smarts go, they were both perfectly evenly matched.
It was one hell of a good night (and an even better birthday outing) for The Team That Shall Not Be Named! Knowing just a smidge more about animal sidekicks in movies, facing their fears in doubling down on Round 3, and remembering all about "ignominy" from "The Scarlet Letter" in high school was enough of a boost to get them to first place and score a free appetizer.
Don't forget to send all the good vibes to Highway Stars and Thirsty Pretzels this weekend! They're taking on 98 (or 99, should they wish to partner) other teams for our 10th Tournament of Champions! Bring home the money, you crazy kids!
